Updates from teamMarius8/12/08 Marius Has Arrived! We wanted to update you on the arrival of Marius and some of the things we have been doing and of course the progress on the surgical front!! Let's start out with the arrival! Most of the Team Marius members were at the airport excitedly awaiting the arrival of the three Romanians. We could hardly believe it was actually here! Marius, Teo and Ionut arrived at about 5:30 and were a little overwhelmed and a lot exhausted but they were good sports about our enthusiasm! 8/1/08 MARIUS IS ON HIS WAY!MARIUS IS COMING!! Marius, and Ionut and Teo will arrive at LAX on August 4th at 3:40 p.m. Team Marius families are going to be there as well as a group of Romanians from the community there in LA where word is spreading about his arrival along with lots of willingness to help. We think that is just terrific that they will have fellow Romanians to help them with their transition and share his culture, traditions, and language. These friends will be a great support in helping Marius adjust to the many changes! The process to get to this point has been long but the miracles myriad! TeamMarius 7/2/08 UpdateHi friends! We apologize that it has been a while since you’ve heard from us. We’ve continued to work on custody issues for Marius but most of what we are doing now, moves along slowly and without a lot of fanfare. We’re currently waiting on a few custody decisions to be finalized in the Romanian court system. We had a few surprises because we thought we were dealing with a few formalities but found we needed additional, more substantial documentation etc. Fortunately, we were recently put in touch with a Romanian attorney, Gabriela Barbu, through some of our Romanian friends here in the U.S. Gabriela has offered to take on Marius’ case pro bono, and has been critical in helping us understand the court proceedings in Romania and giving us peace of mind as we butt up against new requirements. We’re working to expedite the process as much as possible, but it will likely be another month before the custody issue is completely resolved and we can move on to the visa application. In the meantime, our Romanian interpreter, Teo, has been spending the majority of her free time with Marius--bringing him food, taking him outside, and even taking him on trips to the store to get him clothes and sunglasses! Go to our website to see these awesome pictures! (http://www.teammarius.org/Gallery) Teo has been an indispensable part of the team, and all of us—particularly Marius—are so grateful for her energy and devotion to this boy we have grown to love so much. Marius continues to get stronger by the day, eating more and more, sitting in a wheelchair, and even sometimes standing with support. He’s still looking forward to coming to America, but while he waits he is keeping up his spirits (and those of everyone around him) with his sense of humor and smile. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received and continue to receive, and we can’t thank you all enough for your help and thoughts and prayers on behalf of Marius.

The Lastest From Romania6/11/08Marius has made a lot of progression in his exercises and movement. He can sit up for short amounts of time with no problems and can get into and out of a wheelchair with only a little bit of help. He loves to be pushed up and down the hallway outside his room. We have a new game we play where we pretend a balloon is a bomb and we throw it at each other. I know it sounds silly, but he loves it. His burns are looking better every day. His beautiful blue eyes and big smile always brighten up my day! 5/28/08Sorry I haven't sent you an email sooner. We were out of the hospital for a few days and we've finally gotten back into the swing of things. Navigation |
