Updates from teamMarius8/12/08 Marius Has Arrived! We wanted to update you on the arrival of Marius and some of the things we have been doing and of course the progress on the surgical front!! Let's start out with the arrival! Most of the Team Marius members were at the airport excitedly awaiting the arrival of the three Romanians. We could hardly believe it was actually here! Marius, Teo and Ionut arrived at about 5:30 and were a little overwhelmed and a lot exhausted but they were good sports about our enthusiasm! 8/1/08 MARIUS IS ON HIS WAY!MARIUS IS COMING!! Marius, and Ionut and Teo will arrive at LAX on August 4th at 3:40 p.m. Team Marius families are going to be there as well as a group of Romanians from the community there in LA where word is spreading about his arrival along with lots of willingness to help. We think that is just terrific that they will have fellow Romanians to help them with their transition and share his culture, traditions, and language. These friends will be a great support in helping Marius adjust to the many changes! The process to get to this point has been long but the miracles myriad! March 20, 2008We have had a good two days! Yesterday (March 19) I went in to see Marius, but only for a little bit, he was just waking up when I walked in. He has a new relative that is staying with him now, which makes us so happy! Her name is Alina and she is going to stay for one to two weeks depending on if Ionut comes. And the best part…she speaks some English! A couple of days ago we taught Marius how to wink and now he does it all the time. Seriously the cutest thing I have ever seen, I’ll have to try and get a video of it. Anyway, as soon as he was fully awake he got my attention and winked at me! I went and visited some other kids and then came back that last half hour that I was at the hospital. He really wanted Tom and Jerry, but Ashley had stayed home so I didn’t have her laptop, which is what Tom and Jerry is on. I had to explain that to him and he seemed content to wait until the next day. He is such a trooper. One of the missionaries here translated the book You Are Special and so I asked him if he wanted me to read it to him. He said yes so I started reading. It was kind of tough and I’m sure I didn’t do it right. Actually I’m positive I wasn’t reading it right because one of the nurses walked in and asked me what language I was reading in. When I said Romanian she started laughing and I told her I was trying and there was more laughing. It was pretty funny. Every time I asked Marius if he understood he said yes, but maybe he was just being nice ☺. When I left I told him that we would for sure bring Tom and Jerry and he looked happy. Today (March 20) was another great day! Marius was in a great mood when we walked in and he told us that he had received a bath today! He seemed to be very proud that he was clean. And the second thing out of his mouth….Tom and Jerry? We laughed and said that we had it. He is very content to just watch them over and over again. He is laughing a lot more too and he seems to laugh even more when another child is watching it with him. Ashley and I tried to fake laugh to get him to laugh, but it didn’t work. He probably knows we are faking it. Today I also got a little butt slap from Marius. He thought it was the most hysterical thing. He then told Ashley to do it when I had turned my back again. I turned around and he immediately told me that it was Ashley. It was so funny. He has also been copying us more and more. When I coughed, he coughed. When I did a funny laugh he did a funny laugh. Ashley and I are so excited that he is finally becoming comfortable with us and the he is playing with us too! We are teaching him to say please and thank you and you’re welcome. I was trying to get him to say thank you one day so I said, “Marius multumesc” (thank you) and he said cu placere (you’re welcome) instead of saying thank you. It was so funny. And you could tell that he was proud of himself for saying you’re welcome. He also knows our names! It’s so exciting. I hope everything is going well back in America, things are definitely great here!

The Lastest From Romania6/11/08Marius has made a lot of progression in his exercises and movement. He can sit up for short amounts of time with no problems and can get into and out of a wheelchair with only a little bit of help. He loves to be pushed up and down the hallway outside his room. We have a new game we play where we pretend a balloon is a bomb and we throw it at each other. I know it sounds silly, but he loves it. His burns are looking better every day. His beautiful blue eyes and big smile always brighten up my day! 5/28/08Sorry I haven't sent you an email sooner. We were out of the hospital for a few days and we've finally gotten back into the swing of things. Navigation |
