Thumbs Up for Marius!

We are so excited to let all of you know about Marius’ latest surgery. We arrived at Shriners on the 17th of February to have his right toe transferred to his right thumb – a very complex and difficult surgery. Our sweet Marius did amazingly well! The difference in Marius’ capacity from last surgery to this was so evident. He was so upbeat and happy and the things that would upset him so much last surgery as he’d react with fear and concern (like blood tests and IV’s), he didn’t seem to even mind! It was so miraculous to me to watch the change. I think a lot of it is his familiarity with the process and his love for the hospital, staff and doctors. I really think he knew he was in good hands this go around and the fears were allayed and he was trusting and happy!

We had our fair share of miracles again. When we were in the pre-op room, they mentioned that the operation would take 10 to 12 due to the complexities. He went in at 7 and they finished about 6:30 and we got back to the room from post-op about 9:00. When the two head surgeons came in to report, it was glowing. Dr. Cetrulo said it just went so well and that there were 10 things that could have easily come up or gone wrong and none of them did! They were able to find beautiful veins and arteries in both feet and hands and they just had no complications that they were anticipating! Dr. Jones the hand surgeon that is so incredible, said similar things about the fact that it could have been so much more complicated than it had been, and that everything just went so beautifully. Of course we loved to hear that and will count on those wonderful miracles as he continues to heal.

Lynne and her sister Laurel took over and have done the lion’s share of the hospital care and from the pictures of Marius you can tell how well taken care of he is! It is wonderful. It looks as though he will be able to leave the hospital and return home on March 4th.

Thanks again for your continued interest and support.

Love,

Kristin
